CS Professor Claire Cardie and CS Professor and Chair Kavita Bala have been named 2019 Fellows of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). In an article for the Cornell Chronicle Melanie Lefkowitz reports that "Cardie was recognized for contributions to natural language processing, including co-reference resolution, and information and opinion extraction," while "Bala was recognized by the society for contributions to physically based rendering and perceptually based scene understanding—both of which relate to creating and understanding digital images as humans perceive them."
Other Cornell CS faculty have been named Fellows of the ACM, including Professor of Computer Science and Information Science Lillian Lee '93 (in 2018) and CS Professor of Carla Gomes (in 2017).
