CS212 Problem Sets
Submitting directly through email
WARNING: This is not the preferred submission
system. You may not be informed if you do something incorrect, thus leaving your
submission to the scrutiny of the course staff. If you are capable of using the online
submission system, you should use it to avoid anything that may impact your
grade.
Before using this submission system, you must register
with the course staff to get a User ID. Follow these submission instructions
exactly, in case of a mistake, you will get this text as a reply:
- To submit a file, mail it to "cs212+hw@cs.cornell.edu".
- The subject line should be the command, its general syntax is: "UIDS
COMMAND PS"
- The UIDS field should have the form of UID
or UID-UID and so on (usually, two people per problem is
allowed - do not specify more unless authorized). Do not put spaces between UIDs.
- Each of these UID should be one your own three-digit number, if you
don't have one, or if you forgot yours, mail the course staff (UID's
are given manually).
- Each UID is registered with some email address, so always mail from
the same place (using your Cornell netid). Do not try to use random numbers.
- All UIDS that are submitted should be unique, you cannot submit a
file with a group of UIDs that you are not registered with one of
them.
- If you submit a new file, there shouldn't be any other file with one of
the UIDs in this file.
- The COMMAND field is one of "submit", "check"
or "delete". The first one is used to submit your file, the second
to verify that it is there, and the third will delete the stored file so you
can submit another version. One last command is "overwrite" which
is the same as submit but if a copy exists already, it will be deleted
first.
- The PS field should name a valid problem set - you will not be able
to submit anything to problem sets that are not yet available, or that are
over. The check command will not work either. These names will usually be
"ps#" where "#" is replaced with the problem set number.
- On every server query you will get a message-id as part of the response,
you can use these numbers as references in case of problems.
- All mail messages are saved in a backup space, so problems can always be
resolved, and it will be much easier if you save the message-ids.
- Last note: please DO NOT play with the system, try to overload it
or to break it - we do have that backup and any attempt to do one of these
things will not be tolerated.
