Times & PlacesLecturesYou are expected to attend lecture twice each week. Wilethe 9:05 and 11:15 lectures are identical you must attend your assigned section. We simply do not have the room for students to freely change between sections on a whim. If you are having troubles changing sections, contact Jenna Edwards <jls478@cornell.edu>.
Discussion Sections (Labs)Labs are held either in the ACCEL Lab in Carpenter Hall or in Phillips 318. While Phillips is relatively easy to find, the ACCEL Lab can be a bit tricky. The entrance to this lab is through the former Engineering Library. You should enter on the ground floor, walk straight until you can go no further, then go up the stairs on your left. As part of the lab, you will be given an assignment to do on a computer that will be checked off for credit. Sometime problems will be checked automatically, while others will require your section instructor to look at your work. The goal is to give you every opportunity to become fluent in the use of Python and to get you to learn important concepts within a week of their introduction. All labs are mandatory. If you miss more than two of labs without a good excuse (preferably discussed with your section instructor beforehand), your course grade will be reduced one level (e.g. B to B- or A- to B+) for every two labs missed. While a few labs can be completed entirely online (and thus you can finish them without coming to discussion), most will require your instructor to manually check your work. Furthermore, in order to manage the class size this semester, students are not permitted to check off labs outside of their lab time (e.g. during consulting hours). If you need to switch lab sections, contact Jenna Edwards <jls478@cornell.edu>. For occasional scheduling conflicts (e.g. religious holidays), talk your section instructor. If you have your own laptop, you are welcome (and encouraged) to bring that to lab, as it can free up some space in the room.
ExamsThis course will have two prelims and a final. The times and places of these exams, as well as the times for the review sessions, are given on the exams page. Office Hours and TutoringFor office hours with the instructor or TAs, please see the staff listing. For meetings with consultants in the lab, please see the consulting hours. |
