D.ABeCeDarian Company 127 Warren Road Ithaca, NY 14850 607-266-3310 www.abcdrp.com michaelbend@abcdrp.com Project ABeCeDarian Company, located in Ithaca, N.Y., publishes a beginning reading curriculum for classroom teachers, tutors, and home-schoolers. We are interested in adapting some of the lesson activities in this curriculum for use on a tablet computer. Our goal for an initial app would be to incorporate four to six of the lesson activities. The touch screen provides the opportunity to make an app that is very easy for young children to use and simple animation of items such as the stroke sequence for letter formation could provide instruction that is superior to what a teacher can provide with pencil and paper and dry erase board and marker. The app, ideally, should also keep records of a child's performance which the teacher should easily be able to access.Many educational apps provide children with pedagogically shallow practice embedded within an action game. The goal of this app is much different--to provide an engaging, but clean and pedagogically sophisticated tool to help home-schooling parents and tutors organize lessons easily, provide brief practice and review sessions anywhere, and easily keep track of a child's progress. |
