Notes:

In our earlier research we have made significant progress on simulation generation, mesh generation and integration of different mathematical computation paradigms. This experience has lead us to the active model approach.

Two different compound document technologies are currently being suggested, Microsoft’s OLE and OpenDoc, which is being advanced by Apple and IBM. Technically, OpenDoc has many advantages over OLE and is closer to the OMG recommendations. However, OpenDoc is currently only available on the Macintosh platform, while OLE is currently widely available and most application developers are adding OLE now, while waiting to see what happens with OpenDoc. This include Lotus and their SmartsSuite/NotesSuite packages. The recent Microsoft announcement of ActiveX seems like a definitive, if not final, nail in the OpenDoc coffin.
