Work:
  • CURRENT JOB (spring 1998):

I am a part time Teaching Assistant for CS211 at Cornell University's Computer Science Department. CS211 is an intermediate programming in a high-level language and introduction to computer science class. Topics include program structure and organization, modules (classes), program development, proofs of program correctness, recursion, data structures and types (lists, stacks, queues, trees), object-oriented and functional programming, and analysis of algorithms. Java is the principal programming language. I teach a section, hold office hours, design class projects, devise grading schemes and supervise grading sessions. CS211 has around 250 students.

  • PAST JOBS:

I've had several jobs in the past. This might look like a resume but I will still list them in cronological order (from most recent.)

    • Fall 1997: Teaching Assistant for CS100 at Cornell University's Computer Science Department. CS100 is an introduction to programming class with 300+ students. I held office hours, supervised grading sessions, maintained the course web page and assisted students with Java and Matlab assignments.
    • Summer 1997: Software Engineer Internship at Qualcomm, Inc. Worked in the Network Management Center (NMC) group in OmniTRACS division. My accomplishments included:
      • Devised a framework for an X Windows interface to monitor the message flow of a tracking system network.
      • Created an interactive US map that retrieves and displays information on the location selected.
    • Spring 1997: Consultant and tutor for CS100.
    • Fall 1996: Programmer Analyst Co-op at Goldman Sachs & Co. Worked in the Equities Technology Department. Here is what I did:
      • Designed, implemented and installed an X Windows GUI client-server application that dynamically manages the NASDAQ Backup database, and automatically updates client sites in real time.
      • Wrote Perl, CGI and shell scripts, SQL queries and Excel Macros to create several intranet reports that delivered up-to-date financial information, downloadable into Excel Format.
    • 8/1995-8/1996: Computer lab operator. Administered and guided the usage of a public computer facility with 25-30 users.
    • Summer 1995: Housekeeper in La Quinta Inns & Suites. That was the first summer after college started. I went to Salt Lake City, UT to visit my best friend Rosa. I needed some money so I worked as the cleaning lady. It was an interesting job.
    • Before College: I worked part time as the church's librarian for a while. I also taught Spanish to some chinese speaking immigrants to Costa Rica. Most of the time, I help out at my parent's business, La Casa de Motor y Repuestos as a managerial assistant.
  • FUTURE JOB (after Cornell):

Where I will be working after Cornell is still a secret. Maybe I'll post it after I graduate. So check back if you are interested.
