- CURRENT JOB
(spring 1998):
I am a part time Teaching Assistant for CS211 at Cornell University's Computer Science
Department. CS211 is an intermediate programming
in a high-level language and introduction to
computer science class. Topics include program
structure and organization, modules (classes),
program development, proofs of program
correctness, recursion, data structures and types
(lists, stacks, queues, trees), object-oriented
and functional programming, and analysis of
algorithms. Java is the principal
programming language. I teach a section, hold
office hours, design class projects, devise
grading schemes and supervise grading sessions.
CS211 has around 250 students.
- PAST JOBS:
I've had several jobs in
the past. This might look like a resume but I will still list
them in cronological order (from most recent.)
- Fall 1997: Teaching
Assistant for CS100 at Cornell
University's Computer Science
Department. CS100 is an
introduction to programming class with
300+ students. I held office hours,
supervised grading sessions, maintained
the course web page and assisted students
with Java and Matlab assignments.
- Summer
1997: Software Engineer Internship at
Qualcomm, Inc. Worked in the
Network Management Center (NMC) group in OmniTRACS division. My
accomplishments included:
- Devised
a framework for an X Windows
interface to monitor the message
flow of a tracking system
network.
- Created
an interactive US map that
retrieves and displays
information on the location
selected.
- Spring
1997: Consultant and tutor for CS100.
- Fall 1996:
Programmer
Analyst Co-op at Goldman Sachs & Co. Worked in the
Equities Technology Department. Here is
what I did:
- Designed,
implemented and installed an X
Windows GUI client-server
application that dynamically
manages the NASDAQ Backup
database, and automatically
updates client sites in real
time.
- Wrote
Perl, CGI and shell scripts, SQL
queries and Excel Macros to
create several intranet reports
that delivered up-to-date
financial information,
downloadable into Excel Format.
- 8/1995-8/1996:
Computer
lab operator. Administered and guided the
usage of a public computer facility with
25-30 users.
- Summer
1995: Housekeeper in La Quinta Inns
& Suites. That was the
first summer after college started. I
went to Salt Lake City, UT to visit my
best friend Rosa. I needed some money so
I worked as the cleaning lady. It was an
interesting job.
- Before
College: I worked part time as the
church's librarian for a while. I also
taught Spanish to some chinese speaking
immigrants to Costa Rica. Most of the
time, I help out at my parent's business,
La Casa de Motor y Repuestos as a
managerial assistant.
