Before Cornell
After graduating from high-school,
I attended the courses of the Technical
University of Cluj-Napoca, majoring in Computer
Science. For a couple of years I was a quite active member of the local
student organization. I did my graduation project in 1995 at Politecnico
di Torino. I got my bachelor's (engineer) degree in 1995 and my master's
in 1996. From 1995 to 1998 I worked as a system administrator at the networking
center of the university, that also acts as regional
node for the romanian national educational
network. From time to time I was a teaching assistant for the "Computer
Networking" and "Data Structures and Algorithms" courses. Between 1995
and 1996 I also worked part time at the networking center of the Cluj branch
of the Soros Foundation for an Open Society.
In 1997 they separated from the foundation turning into a very successful
commercial ISP called DNT. In 1996 and
1997 I held some summer courses presenting the Internet. In 1998 I got
a one month scholarship to the Tampere University
of Technology. And after having all this fun I came to Cornell to do
some serious work ;-).
