Project Suggestion:
Wine Lists

Managing Wine Lists

Clients

David Dowell, Bill Mannett - Grouse Mountain Grill

Project

This project has been suggested by Jackson Dowell, <jcd242@cornell.edu>, who is a student on the course. If you are interested in working with him, please contact him directly. He writes,

"My parents own a fine dining restaurant in the Beaver Creek ski resort in Colorado called Grouse Mountain Grill. They and their sommelier are interested in creating a web application accompanied by a tablet app to manage wine lists electronically.

"The goals are to improve the management of their wine cellar and to enrich the user experience when viewing a wine list by introducing a tablet-based user interface. This will allow customers to explore the extensive list with more ease, and to make an informed purchasing decision given recommendations, browsing tools (i.e. sorting by type, price etc.), and rich content included with the description of each wine. It will also allow the restaurant to present a close to real time list and offer expert information about each wine when the sommelier is not able to directly serve each table.

"This project will be starting from the ground up, so there will be room for creativity on the part of the team as the product features and scope are defined. The end goal is to create a fully functional system that can be used in production during the winter season. All backgrounds are welcome, but experience in web development, app development, and interface design are highly desirable."

This project will present the challenge of working with a remote client and will require a special effort on the part of the development team to ensure its success. Jackson will be the primary point of contact to the restaurant, but the whole team can expect to work closely with the client, since this project will require constant feedback and testing.

It appears that in this instance the problems of working with a remote client can be managed, but before committing to the project you should make sure that you understand the implications.
