360 Panorama Without Spherically Warping
Full Size Panorama
Creating a 360 panorama without spherically warping causes heavy distortion around the edges of the image. The distortion that we see is created in the aligning process because we are not taking into account the 3D to 2D spherical projection that the camera takes. By implementing a spherical warp at the beginning of the panorama process, the curvature of the sphere corrects for this distoration.
What Did/Did Not Work Well
- SIFT features work better than MOPS
- In order to have decent aligning of the images in the panorama, there should be a decent amount of features that overlap in the two images. In situations where there aren't many features, this can be tough to do.
- A more advanced blending algorithm will likely make image transitions more seamless. We are seeing some dark bands around the image transitions.
- Our implementation does not handle motion very well
