Rules and Mechanics
Before you start to program your game, you need a better understanding of how it is actually played. In this lecture we take a deeper look at how game mechanics work. This is the first of a series on rules.
The purpose of this lecture is to get you ready for the gameplay specification, which is the next major document in this course. That is a living document, and we expect it to change over the course of the semester. However, it will make development a lot easier if you can get it as right as possible the first time.
To complement this lecture, we recommend the following reading and/or viewing:- Fullerton, Chapter 5 (Optional)
- Rules of Play, Chapters 12 and 14 (Optional)
