Data-Driven Design
One of the more unexpected features of your game is the level editor, which is due as part of alpha release. In this lecture, we talk about why this is an important part of game development.
Data driven design is one of the core concepts of modern game design. Without it, it would be impossible for artists and programmers to work together on such complicated projects. But the amount of data driven design required often depends on the scope of your game. Indeed, this lecture will only even hint at the complex content pipelines in AAA (large budget) games.
To complement this lecture, we recommend the following reading and/or viewing:- Tile-Based Game Techniques
- Tiled Map Editor Manual (Optional)
- Blades of Avernum Editor (Optional)
