Why MATLAB?
Both CS100J and CS100M use MATLAB (http://www.mathworks.com),
which is:
-
a high level software package designed for numerical analysis.
-
used extensively in industry.
-
used extensively throughout Cornell in Engineering,
Computer
Science, and other disciplines.
Which Version?
The public labs have Matlab version 5.x installed, but
the Campus Bookstore is probably selling version 6.y. We do not
expect to depend on any features specific to either version.
The file formats should be mutually compatible, i.e. the same
files should automatically (without you needing to do
anything) work fine in both versions.
