CS100J Installing
CodeWarrior (PC)
|
CodeWarrior
Pro 5 Windows/NT Installation
0) Completely uninstall any previous version of CodeWarrior
There's an installer/uninstaller program in CodeWarrior's
folder,
or the add/remove programs control panel should work.
If there are any CodeWarrior or Metrowerks folders left around
after the uninstall,
it would probably be a good idea to delete them.
1) Install CodeWarrior
-
Insert the CW Pro 5 Windows 95/NT Tools CD and Launch CodeWarrior
Setup.
-
Click yes/next/ok/etc. until the Setup Type window appears.
-
Select Custom and click next until you get to the Select
Components window.
-
In the Select Components window, you should see a scrollable
list options.
-
Click in the checkboxes for:
-
Core Tools
-
Java and JavaRAD Components
-
Those who who C/C++, which is not needed/used for CS100,
should include
Win32-x86 C/C++ Components.
-
Note that we do not include/use the Academic Components.
-
Click ok/next/yes/finish until the installation begins.
This will use up about 125MB disk space.
-
Restart the machine if requested.
3) Install Sun's Java Environment (if a current version is
not already installed)
-
CodeWarrior includes some tools that require at least the
runtime part of Sun's Java environment.
-
If an older version of the Sun Java environment exists, delete
it now.
-
Open a viewer window (Explore the CD) and look at the files
on the CD.
-
Open the folder \Extras\SDKs\Java\Sun Microsystems.
-
Double click the jdk1_2_1-win icon and click through until
installation is
complete (agree to restart if so requested).
-
(We would prefer to run the jre1_2_1-win installer, as it
is a
smaller installation; however, we have had problems trying
to use it.)
-
This will use up about 60MB disk space.
4) Download the CUCS stationery from one of the following
sites
Download the file CW5PCExtras.exe.
(this is actually for Pro 3, and works for Pro 3, Pro
4, and Pro 5)
If you cannot find the file, retrieve it from ftp://ftp.cs.cornell.edu/pub/cs100.
Double-click on the icon to run it, and agree to Unzip the
files.
This creates a new folder containing the stationery and installation
instructions.
Follow the instructions, but pay attention to ONLY the sections
"Installation" and "Testing"
The other items (e.g. "Internet Explorer 4") do not apply
to Pro 5.
