CodeWarrior Pro 3 Mac Installation

We give directions for installing Codewarror Pro 3 on the Mac. This installation will install Java and C/C++. If you want to install only Java, just ignore directions dealing with C or C++.

1. Remove previous version(s) of CodeWarrior. You have to do this only if some version of CodeWarrior is on your Mac.
   1. Delete any old CodeWarrior folder(s)
   2. Delete the following things from the System Folder:
      • Extensions:MetroNub (single file)
      • Preferences:Metrowerks (entire folder)
      • If you're updating from CW Pro 1 or earlier, remove the Java folder in the System folder. (This doesn't exist in CW Pro 2 and 3.)
2. Install Codewarrior Pro 3. Insert the CodeWarrior Pro 3 MacOS Tools CD and double click the CWPro3 installer. Click ok/yes/accept until you get to the installer options window. Select the following options (some of these are implicitly selected by others, but it's safer to select everything we need).
   • MacOS Minimal Install
   • CodeWarrior IDE with Integrated Debugger CodeWarrior Apple Guides: Core and Java Guides only
   • Metrowerks Standard Library: MSL C/C++ only
   • Metrowerks C/C++ for MacOS (both 68K and PPC)
   • Metrowerks Java for MacOS
   • Java Virtual Machines: Metrowerks Java only
   • Other Metrowerks Tools: Project Converter and Tools for Netbourne patches only

   Click install, let the installer run, and restart when it's done. This will fill about 250MB on a 1GB disk.

3. Install updates. Metrowerks has a few updates for CodeWarrior Pro 3. Get on the Web and look at the Metrowerks web site, www.metrowerks.com. It contains instructions for installing the updates. You need the CW IDE 3.1 patch. Install it by double-clicking the update program. It will find the IDE and make the necessary updates after you run the installer and tell it to go ahead. When the update finishes, open the Metrowerks CodeWarrior folder and delete the IDE 3.0 file.
4. Remove some files (Optional). There are a few easy-to-find pieces that can be removed to save about 35MB disk space.
   • Pascal. Remove the following files and folders, all of which are somewhere in the Metrowerks CodeWarrior folder (the one that contains the IDE application).
     • CodeWarrior Plugins: MW Pascal 68K and MW Pascal PPC
     • Metrowerks Standard Library: MSL Pascal (folder)
     • MacOS Support: Interfaces (folder)
     • MacOS Support:Libraries: three folders here - Pascal 68K, Pascal PPC, Pascal (Old Libs)
     • (Project Stationery):MacOS:Pascal (folder)
   • General documentation. Delete the following folders in MetroWerks CodeWarrior:
     • Resources
     • CodeWarrior Books
     • CodeWarrior Documentation
   • Delete Old IDE archive. Delete the file
     • Metrowerks:Other Metrowerks Tools:CW11 IDE and Prefs.sit
5. Install CUCS Java stationery (optional). The files for the stationery CS Java Application and CS Java Graphics Application can be downloaded from the CS100A home page. Browse to that page and follow the directions. The downloaded files are in standard formats for the web: a self-extracting BinHex archive for the Mac and a ip file for Windows. Instructions for installing the stationary are included with the files.
