Title: Between geometry and images

The days are long gone when a teapot with a marble texture could wow an audience. Today's users want everything from life-like faces to trees to animated impressionist renderings. Producing these images using traditional rendering can techniques can be expensive, time-consuming, or even impossible. In this talk we will discuss a modeling approach which combines the strengths of traditional rendering with the emerging field of image-based rendering. This approach, and others like it, expands the types of images we can produce by treating photographs and drawings as modeling primitives.
