A lot of people seem to have trouble typing mathematical symbols on their keyboards, which is sad because Unicode has been around for more than a generation now. I use a custom keyboard layout on Mac OS systems that works pretty well, though it's biased toward the kind of math symbols that I use. In combination with various LaTeX packages, it allows typing math more directly into LaTeX source rather than cluttering things up with long macro names.
