Supported platforms and known bugs

Compatibility

This site uses Java heavily. It was tested on the following platforms:
  1. UNIX: all with Netscape 3.0 and higher versions.
  2. Windows95 and Windows NT 4.0 with Netscape 3.0 or higher, and Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher versions.
  3. MacOS 7.5+ with Netscape 3.0 or higher versions (at least 32 MB main memory is recommended).

Known Problems

  1. Under UNIX (all versions tested) a Motif warning 'Name: slist, Class XmList, ...' is popped whenever an 'Alignment' window is brought up. We suspect this to be a minor problem somewhere in the AWT Motif peer implementation. This problem, except for being a nuisance doesn't seem to have any effect on execution. Pressing 'Ok' should make the warning window go away.
  2. For Windows NT users: java hangs communicator on Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 3. There is a patch that can solve this problem. Download this patch here
(We thank Bobby Otillar from UCSF who informed us about the problem, and about the patch)
